About the Pre-College Global Education Program

The Pre-College Global Education Program at Caldwell College is designed for high school students to prepare for future academic success at an American college, explore American culture and develop friendships in a positive setting.

  • College-level course. Students will take one college-level course offered by Caldwell College, consisting of 37.5 hours of instruction over a period of  three weeks.  Students will better understand what is required of them to be successful at the next level.  

  • Academic and Language Support. Students will receive academic support as needed from Caldwell College’s Center for Student Success and ESL support as needed from International Ivy.

  • Guaranteed Admission. Upon successful completion of one college-level course (grade B or above), Caldwell College will guarantee admission to participants upon graduation from their secondary school. Caldwell College will award an elective credit upon enrollment at Caldwell College.

  • Recreational and Cultural Exploration. Students will participate in numerous recreational activities to explore American culture and expand their command of the English language in an informal and authentic setting. Recreation activities include scavenger hunts, bowling, movies, music concerts and games.

  • Weekend Fun and Friendships. Students will take day trips to visit other colleges and universities, wander in museums and popular tourist sites and play in amusement parks.  During this intense immersion experience, bonds of friendships will surely form among participants.

Illustrative Schedule

 

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday

  • 9:30-12:30 College-level course - "Contemporary Business"
  • 12:30-1:30 Lunch
  • 1:30 - 5:00 Choice: (a) counselor internship or (b) get support
  • (a) Participants can intern at the enrichment program for younger children (ages 8-14) by being a junior counselor. Responsibilities include helping children in different topics like robotics, math, science, business and many other topics. Recommendations will be provided for college application.
  • (b) Participants who require academic or language support would use this time to seek help.
  • 5:00 - 6:00 Dinner
  • 6:00 - 8:00 Evening Activities (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) like bowling, movies, shopping, music concernts, games, etc.

Saturday, Sunday

  • day trips to other colleges and universities, explore the museums and tourist sites of New York City and visit amusement parks
  • arrivals and departures are on Sundays.

Course Description

Contemporary Business (BU 105)

 

Surveys the various fields of business. The student will be introduced to the different forms of business ownership, managerial skills, marketing principles, accounting, financial analysis, computer terminology, money and banking, business law and international trade.

Fees

 

The Program fee is $7,800 for the three-week Program.

 

The Program fee includes the college-level course, academic and ESL support, transfers to and from the airport, all meals, dormitory accommodations based on double occupancy, off-campus recreational and cultural activities and all intra-program transportation.

 

The Program fee does not include airfare to and from the United States, visa application fees and medical insurance, all of which are the responsibility of the student.

Eligibility

 

The Program will accept students who are currently high school sophomores and juniors. Student must demonstrate minimum English language proficiency by providing one of the following:

  • transcript showing 3 years of English language study
  • scores on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) – minimum 70 on internet-based test, minimum 550 paper-based test, minimum 220 on computer-based test
  • score on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS) – minimum 6.0
  • certificate showing completion of Level 112 from an ELS program
